Fast, fun to watch . . . . .

They do make cool photos and artwork and are amazing to watch!!!! There are tons of variations to this species. It always appears in a wastewater treatment plant or lagoons when the sludge is older, and the BOD is relatively low. When conditions are not good, the rotifer will form a cyst.

These photomicrographs were taken from many wastewater samples. Most of the objectives used were 400x and 1000x.

Most species of rotifers are about 200 to 500 micrometers long, except of course for our rare first mystery bug of the month. He of course was a giant in this species!
Rotifers are multicellular animals	Rotifers have specialized organ systems and a complete digestive tract that includes both a mouth and anus.

	The name rotifer is derived from the Latin word meaning wheel-bearer; this is inreference to the crown of cilia around the mouth of the rotifer that in some species resembles a wheel rotating.
